Wiley Brooks' Professional Background
Wiley has been a communication executive for most of his career. Here is a
capsule of his experience.
The Wiley Brooks Company
Wiley founded his firm in 1988. It is well known along the U.S. West Coast for its crisis and
issue management expertise, but also has managed global marketing communication
campaigns. He took a sabbatical from the firm in 1999 and 2000 to create TellThemNow.com, an online company.
ClearAndConciseWriting.com
Wiley has consulted and written for many
companies. While doing a project at a major international PR firm he created a
writing workshop for their own professional writers. After that assignment
ended, he spent several months creating a version of the workshop for
businesses, government agencies and non-profits. That 90-minute workshop, which
he called Change Your Thinking, showed people how they could easily become
far more effective writers. Wiley turned that workshop in an online business
called
Clear And Concise Writing.
TellThemNow.com
Wiley founded this company that made it easy for people reading news online to
send email messages to people named in the stories they were reading.
Journalist
Wiley's writing and editing skills were refined as a journalist. He worked for newspapers in
Florida, Pennsylvania and Illinois. Before leaving the newspaper business he was
executive editor of a paper that was considered for a Pulitzer Prize. His
newspaper career included the St. Petersburg Times, The Tampa Tribune, the
Philadelphia Daily News, the Waukegan Sun and the York Daily Record.
Education
Wiley is a graduate of the University of South Florida, where he studied
political science and mass communication. While there, he was managing editor of
the school newspaper. He attended the Graduate School of Journalism at the
University of Missouri, the world's oldest journalism school.
