Meet Wiley Brooks

Wiley Brooks helps companies facing unusual challenges protect their core business. It’s an expertise he has honed over more than 30 years of communications experience, the past 20 as a self-employed consultant.

Some of Wiley’s work is well known.

  • When Jack in the Box found itself face-to-face with the deadliest food borne illness crisis any restaurant had ever confronted, Wiley stepped in to manage the communications surrounding the crisis and to help the company bring its business back to normal.

  • When a large, well-known cruise line faced a disaster that threatened a huge part of its business, the company turned to Wiley to guide the communications response.

  • When a Fortune 100 company discovered that one of its factories had caused the worst drinking water contamination case in U.S. history, the company hired Wiley to manage the complex communication issues it faced.

  • When the FBI arrested the president of a large college for taking kickbacks, the college’s board asked Wiley to help plot a course to maintain the college’s good name.

  • When a large Catholic archdiocese found itself mired in dealing with the terrible consequences of immoral acts by some of its priests, it turned to Wiley to design a strategy to regain control of the discussion and be seen as doing the right way.

Wiley is pragmatic and thorough in his approach to crisis management. He is candid with his clients and not afraid to be blunt. He works well with attorneys, as well as with a company’s advertising and public relations agencies. He’s a one-man business, a true consultant.

Before focusing on being a sole consultant, Wiley ran a highly successful public relations firm. He also founded and ran an Internet company. He began his career as a journalist. At age 30, he was executive editor of a mid-sized daily newspaper that was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

In addition to his consulting practice, Wiley teaches writing workshops to help communications professionals write better. He offers the workshops to PR firms and corporate staffs around the country, as well as through an online version that is sold to individuals.
